2 Samuel 2 and 3

David,
a man accustomed to inquiring of the Lord, never takes the minutest of decisions
for granted –2:1-4, 10b -11.

A
man who abides continually in God, recognising that he can do nothing without God –John 15: 1-5.
· He was
anointed king over only one out of twelve tribes, and that did not agitate him.
·
Abner
imposed Ishbosheth (Saul’s son) over all Israel, so to say – 2: 8-10.
·
By God’s
mathematics, ONE beat ELEVEN, hands down – 2: 30-31, 3:1.

Even
his enemy eventually turned the whole kingdom over to him 3:9-21, Prov. 16:7.
HIS SECRET? – THE BEATITUDES OF DAVID
Matthew 5: 1-12

David learned
from a very young age to dwell at the mountain top with God – vs 1.
·
Poor
of spirit – He was a man who did not think of himself higher than he ought to – vs 3, Rom.
12:3.

A
mournful soul – vs 4. He was very quick to repent deeply for any wrongdoing – Ps. 32, Ps. 51 etc.

Meek
– vs 5. Matt. 12:20, Isa. 42:3.
·
Hungered
and thirsted after righteousness – vs 6.
·
Merciful – vs 7.
·
Pure
in heart – vs 8. His errors were the 'acts of David', not the 'way of David'.
· A peacemaker
– vs 9.
·
Persecuted
for righteousness’ sake – He was persecuted because of his zeal for God and his people, nothing
personal.
