2 KINGS 2
V1. When God would make Elisha step into his destiny.
Don't wait until your discipler goes to heaven before you step into God's
purpose for your life. You may go before him! In the New Testament, only JESUS
the Testator needed to go (be glorified) before we could step fully into
destiny. Now, with our human disciplers still alive, we can step into and
fulfil our destiny- Barnabas/Paul, Paul/Timothy, Peter/Mark, John/the Elect
Lady, etc...Entering into your destiny does not terminate your discipleship,
even if your labour is greater than your discipler's- Paul/the Apostles. They
still spoke into his life and labour (Gal 2:1-2).
V2, 4, 6. When a discipler tests your own conviction and resolve in
following. Are you satisfied with what you have now or are you
following with a future in mind, i.e. what God can wrought through you in the
future? Some disciples are happy to run with the half bread that they have now,
so they despise their discipleship and become insubordinate. Will you
"tarry here" when the Lord has sent your discipler yonder or will you
follow yonder as well; as the Lord lives, and as his soul lives?
V3, 5, 7. Sons of the prophets. The
"sensible" ones- gifted, anointed, and ministering for now while
Elisha was merely following. They were ministers, not followers. Risk free "disciples." They stood afar off to
see what would happen as Elisha got stranded. When you stand aloof and afar off
in your following, you will only see the miraculous in other people's lives but
you will not yourself touch it. Yet, you may be gifted, but with half bread.
V8. Wherever God makes me to attain, I will always enjoy the benefit
of following my disciplers. I will walk through
Jordan that dries up at their instance. I will enjoy their open heavens while I
pray God for mine.
V9. Elijah asked Elisha why he was following him.
Lord, give me an answer to why You attached me to my discipler. It was not for
nothing that Elisha followed Elijah and he knew that right from the onset.
V10. Even the grace your discipler manifests
is not in his
power to confer on you. You need to see beyond the natural in
following a man. If it was possible to transfer grace, many men of God would
quickly transfer it to their own children first before any disciple. While you
covet God's grace in your discipler, trust God to open your inner eyes to see
God, the giver of the grace.
V12. Elisha saw it! How did we know?
His cry clearly described what he saw that others did not see. "The
chariots of Israel, and the horsemen thereof." Does your life output
describe what you have seen of Calvary? Or, are you seeing one thing and your
life is crying another?
ü Lord, bring me to my destiny as I
travel with you in discipleship.
Don't let my life be a waste. Help
me and make me quickly. No time to waste.
ü Lord, give me a resolve to collect all that You
planned for my life.
May I not run away with half bread. Keep
me in incubation till I am done.
ü Draw me nearer Lord, and help me to release.
Don't let me be aloof and afar like
these sons of prophet.
ü Keep me close to my disciplers so I can enjoy their
open heavens while
You are making my own. Make a way for me where there is none. Please make me
humble.
ü Open my eyes to see You.
Only You can give me grace in multiples
in order to fulfil my destiny. The grace You give me is to fulfil the task
ahead of me, not to compete with or belittle my discipler.
ü Lord I have seen You to some extent. Cause me to see
You more.
Align my life with what You are
revealing to me of Yourself in the Gospel.
ü Let the cry of my life ever be "Christ
Crucified!"
"Christ in me, the hope of
glory!" Let this be my daily reality as long as I live.
ü Anoint me commensurately for the task ahead of my
life.
Give me grace and glory that is greater
than the work I am assigned to do.
Thank You for making me Your disciple. Please give me
grace to follow.
